In November 2006, UPA Hyderabad surveyed User Experience professionals to understand- Who are the people working in HCI ? Where they work ? What is their Education & Experience ? and How much they earn?
The survey received 183 responses (total 580 visited) and was open for all. Respondents were targeted through number of mailing lists and
blogs. Overall the survey reveals that
HCI has matured in India with practitioners having experience more then 9yrs and PhD
s. Respondents following total
UCD practice are more then those doing just heuristic reviews. This shows many companies in India are valuing Usability profession. Searching "usability" on
Google Trends shows Bangalore as the top most city in the world looking for this
term.
UPA Hyderabad will conduct such surveys every year. We invite constructive feedback and volunteers for next year: Nov 2007 survey. Write us about your wish list at:

This chapter unfurls a new beginning in the area of Usability to promote the principles of usable design in India. It successfully brings together User Interface designers, Interaction Designers, Usability engineers, Human factors engineers, Technical or doc writers, QA Engineers, Developers, Students, Researchers, Ethnographers, Consultants and all those working for HCI to network, share and develop novel concepts .
A group of Usability professionals from hyderabad have initiated the formation of Hyderabad UPA chapter and invites you to join this chapter to promote usability practices in India. UPA hyderabad is actively pursuing UPA Board of Directors to reduce the membership fees for Developing countries.
