Event Summary
The meet was organized at Cyber Towers. It started at 3:00 PM. More than 80 participants from various companies and institutions like Oracle, Kanbay, Alliance Consulting, Microsoft, Convergys, Cordys, Satyam, Infosys, TCS, Virtusa, Infor Global, Teleonto, Foursoft, Sagehill, MindScape, Keane, DimDim, TechRR, e-Delve, BlogCamp, Osmania University, IIIT, SV college, etc attended the UPA Launch on Oct 13.
Sameer Chavan(Oracle), president UPA Hyderabad Chapter, gave the welcome address. He talked about UPA Hyderabad's affiliation, its need for the formation and the plans forward.
Smt. P. Sabitha Reddy, Hon'ble Minister for I.T, Andhra Pradesh, declared the Hyderabad Chapter of the UPA, officially launched through her special video message. Dr.Eric Schaffer, CEO HFI, inaugurated the session, by lighting lamps.
Dr. Eric Schaffer, CEO HFI, presented on the maturing of usability and how it affects the world. He spoke on usability maturity curve over the decades and the importance of institutionalization of usability practice. He gave an insight into HFI process-methodologies and touched upon several areas of interest from usability ROI and usability in the context of Web2.0.
Apala Lahari Chavan from HFI presented on Cross-cultural usability. She spoke about Designing for the World, taking cultural factors into consideration. She touched upon research by cultural anthropologists such as Hofstede, Trompenaars and Hall. She shared several examples how cultural factors influenced, HFI’s innovative user study methodologies and techniques.
Following a tea break, Dr.Baral from NID, Presented on cognitive science and HCI. He spoke about cognitive science's development in last couple of decades, he further elaborated over various fundamental theories. It was very interesting to see applied principle of cognitive science in the field of Human Computer Interaction.
Dr. Bipin Indurkhya form IIIT, presented on Eliza effect and its role in user-interface design. He spoke about the Eliza effect and the user's emotional bonding with it. He enthralled the audience with the examples of interfaces in computer systems and robots influenced by Eliza effect, which makes them cognitively useful.
The event concluded with Dr.Eric Schaffer announcing winners for the competitions UPA - 'Web Personality' & UPA - 'Blog Star' and Dr.Beena form Osmania University gave momentos to the speakers
